The Escapist recaps

  • Pokémon TCG Pocket came out on October 30, 2024, and it generated a fiercely dedicated competitive scene, meaning it’s crucial to have the best meta decks possible. It’s a solid F2P experience
  • Water-type decks in Pocket come in all shapes and sizes, but usually, they feature Greninja, Greninja ex, or both. This frog is a lethal part of the Pocket meta.
  • Suicune ex and Greninja make a great pairing, allowing for balanced damage, strong control, and extra healing via Indeedee ex.
  • Gyarados ex and Greninja work nicely together to frustrate the opponent, with the addition of Druddigon for ease of setup.
  • Greninja and Oricorio make a lethal combo, particularly when Giratina ex is added to the list. Alternatively, Suicune ex pairs nicely with this duo.

Best Pokémon TCG Pocket Water-type decks

We’ve gathered up the best Water-type decks in Pokémon TCG Pocket below, looking at recent tournament rankings and meta shifts to identify the best of the best. Unsurprisingly, Greninja features in all of them.

As the competitive scene continues to evolve alongside Pokémon TCG Pocket’s ever-growing card list, this article will be updated with the latest meta decks.

Suicune ex (Greninja)

Suicune ex and Greninja are a match made in heaven, especially when paired with the standard iteration of Greninja and Indeedee ex. This deck is quite ex heavy, admittedly, but it can deal serious damage to your Benched opponents, all while Indeedee ex keeps your team topped up.

An underrated element of this deck is Suicune ex’s Legendary Pulse. This provides a necessary boost to draw power, which helps to counteract the deck being quite heavy with Pokémon instead of Supporters.

Using Legendary Pulse and Rare Candy means you’ll be able to get Greninja ex onto the field with ease, accessing Aqua Edge, which hits for 100 damage in return for two Energy Tokens.

Gyarados ex (Greninja)

While Gyarados ex might have a powerful Mega counterpart, it’s important not to overlook the potential in the standard ex card. This beast can hit for 140 damage, but its most important ability is being able to discard an Energy from your opponent’s Pokémon if Rampaging Whirlpool lands in your favor.

Greninja’s Water Shuriken and Druddigon’s Rough Skin add to Gyarados ex nicely, meaning it’s easy to manage your opponent and set up safely. It’s not the most complicated deck out there, but with the right Supporters, it can drown the competition.

Greninja (Oricorio)

You’ll notice there’s one speedy little frog that makes an appearance consistently throughout our line-up of the best Water-type decks in Pocket; whether you’re looking at the standard iteration with Water Shuriken or its ex form, Greninja stands out as one of the best cards in the game.

Greninja-Oricorio is an interesting deck that revolves around blocking damage with Oricorio’s Safeguard, allowing Greninja to pop Benched damage safely with Water Shuriken and build up Energy on Giratina ex for Chaotic Impact.

Alternate variants of Greninja-Oricorio may scrap Giratina ex and Shaymin in favor of Suicune ex and a higher number of Supporters.

Whether you’re looking for a control deck or a heavy-hitter, there’s one frog in particular to watch out for. Both Greninja and Greninja ex hold massive potential in the competitive Pokémon TCG Pocket scene, with the former offering unparalleled Benched damage potential and the latter being quick to deal big hits.
