Better Living Through Games

This article is over 15 years old and may contain outdated information

In Response to “Careful What You Wish For” from The Escapist Forum: Great story! I truly enjoyed reading this. I never read anything for at least an hour after I wake up, but this kept me reading. Congratulations on that. Everyone says gold-farming is what kills a game, I am personally not affected by it in the ways I play, but I guess I’d be missing the point of this article, eh?

I was wondering by the end of page two how this was going to be wound up in only one other page, but the lesson honestly surprised me. The fact that your little brother, one of those *12 year old brats* (I know he isn’t twelve, but you get my point), had the character to actually give that gold out to his buddies online, well…It really is great.

Mr.Pandah

This is all well and good but internet frends are dispensible. They can join new guilds, start new characters, change games or just stop playing; your brother will find himself with new friends, he will be happy but the money your family spent will have been wasted. I would rather this article have a different ending as your brother has been set up to learn a lesson later in life about buying friends and what happens to a fool and their money.

In Response to “Beat Your Game to Death” from The Escapist Forum: I can see the futility of spending months on end trying to perfect your abilities at a certain game. However, some people just enjoy this kind of thing and there’s nothing wrong with that. I played Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry 4, I really suck at both. But if you want to be the best at something and are willing to put the time and effort in to do so, then go for it.

I just really hope that the author’s compaint isn’t another rant that hardcore games should be nixed in favor of more Wii Sports nonsense.

In Response to “One Must Live Through It” from The Escapist Forum: That was a great read, although, I sure hope the apocalypse, when it comes, is NOT of the nuclear bombardment type since, me not living anywhere near anything that could possibly protect me from the fallout, I would probably die a horrible, horrible death.

Honestly though, I don’t think an apocalypse would “wipe the slate clean”. If anything, I could imagine life getting much, much worse, in every possible way, social, environmental, or otherwise.

In Response to “Backstage With Tim Schaefer” from The Escapist Forum: I’m sad to say that if (BrĆ¼tal Legend) does have ridiculous DRM on it, then I would rather go without. Its sucks majorly that anyone would have to make that choice, especially because if anyone deserves money, its Double Fine. Though I’ll be sure to check out their website to keep up on it.

In response to “Boom! Headshot” from The Escapist Forum: Yeah, I think the point of the article has been missed by some, but as an avid fan of PP and regualar shopper to the store (I even have PurePwnage boxer shorts) it’s nice to read something like this. I’ve been following the show since like….ever and more importantly, as a film production student, it’s good to see how something so simple can fill a niche gap and take off so well.
