Dead Rising 3 PC Version Will Run Into Issues Above 30 FPS, Says Capcom

Capcom says players can unlock the game’s 30 FPS cap on the PC version, but will probably run into problems if they do.

While the whole 30 versus 60 frames-per-second debate rages on in the console world, it’s largely ignored by PC gamers, who have traditionally been able to set a game’s frame rate to be as high or as low as they please (hardware permitting). So, they were left scratching their heads when Capcom announced that the upcoming PC version of Dead Rising 3 would have a frame rate cap, that players can unlock “at their own risk.”

“When we started the PC project we knew we weren’t gonna be able to guarantee anything above 30 frames-per-second,” said Capcom during an E3 stream, adding “we’re not gonna stop you from uncapping the frame rate, but we can’t guarantee the experience.”

“We just really don’t know what’s gonna happen [if players remove the frame rate cap]. You might see some weird stuff with physics, some weird stuff with zombies.”

Furthermore, Capcom went on to assure PC gamers that it doesn’t really believe that players will “lose anything” by playing at 30 FPS, and while yes, the frame rate can be unlocked, players will probably experience some odd glitches and abnormal game behavior. “If you want feel free to uncap it, but it’s gonna be wild and crazy.”

For the record, the PC version of the previously released Dead Rising 2 featured no such cap.
