Disney Bringing Marvel’s Kevin Feige Over to Develop New Star Wars Movie

Disney is pulling Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige over to take on a new Star Wars movie.

The Hollywood Reporter was first to share the news, saying that discussion for Feige to help produce a Star Wars film started late this Summer and quickly evolved into something more. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and co-chairmen Alan Horn and Alan Bergman met with the Marvel producer and instantly knew he was fit to sit at the helm of a new direction for Star Wars films.

Horn elaborated on the decision to further ingrain Feige in Disney’s movie plans:

“We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox. With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together.”

It’s worth noting that the quote says the Marvel mastermind will help produce only one Star Wars film, so it isn’t quite time to start betting on a Feige-led Star Wars Cinematic Universe.

Sources also hinted at Feige already having a “major” actor in mind for a particular project, though the details on that front stop there.

Many feel Feige is responsible for bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe its decade of success. Sure, a few Marvel flicks (namely Thor: The Dark World and The Incredible Hulk) are remembered as duds, but more than a few of the recent movies have had no problem crossing the $1 billion mark. In other words, Disney is done messing around with the galaxy far, far away.

In other lightsaber-themed news, Disney’s soon-to-be-released streaming service, Disney+, has been confirmed to eventually air an Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series starring Ewan McGregor.
