Featured User Group: PRIATE and Asylum Open Mic Part One

This article is over 14 years old and may contain outdated information

Props to Hubilub for the idea: This week and the next we are going to be showcasing two user groups. Asylum Open Mic and P.R.I.A.T.E are two huge user groups based purely around social interaction. Some share users, some of the users have rivalries, and some users are best friends. However, they both claim to be “kind.” I thought that given the chance, they would jump at each others’ throats, but that turned out to be a false assumption!

I interviewed both user groups separately and then gave them a chance to “critique” the other group’s answers. They did so with glee, and what arose was a … well, just see for yourself.

This week, we are showing the interview answers from P.R.I.A.T.E. and the inserted comments from a couple the admins from Asylum Open Mic:

  1. Why was P.R.I.A.T.E. founded?

    Furburt:
Apparently, it was something about hating children, but that’s long forgotten!

Demented_Teddy:
I believe it was founded as a joke group at a time when Sassafrass was annoyed at some kids, seeing as P.R.I.A.T.E. stands for People Really Irked by Annoying Tykes Everyday. Since then, I imagine it just became a complete social group with many users after joining and making friends with other users. It’s how I got to know a good handful of other users.

  • What do you see as the future of the group?

    Furburt:
    Even more pages of chat.
Seriously, we can’t stop talking. We’ve tried.

  • Sassafrass:
Many, many, many pages of chat.
And hopefully more practical jokes within the community, like the recent spread of the Jim Gaga avatars. All will be done with the staffs agreement, of course. We shall try to spread fun like butter on crumpets!

  • What do you think other users could gain from the group?

    Furburt:
Well, our sense of fun is infectious. Plus, we have a rather interesting paradox as in we’re very tight-knit, but very accepting too. So if you need a friend, we’re pretty much always there.
Unless we hate you, of course. But that rarely happens.

  • What sets you apart from other user groups?

    Furburt:
The amount we talk, I think. We have no set topic, nor any pretense of seriousness. We’re basically the closest you could get to an actual conversation with your mates.

    Sassafrass:
I would have to echo a suggestion made in another user group interview and that would be the PMing of the owner/Admins when a new member has joined. It’s hard to keep track of new members when you have about 75+ and as I like to welcome new members when I see them, this would be a nice touch. Well, for me at least.

  • Anything else you would like to add?

    Furburt:
If it weren’t for P.R.I.A.T.E., I’d be banned by now. So thanks lads, for helping me straighten out my ways!

    Demented_Teddy:
Id like to say that P.R.I.A.T.E. has made my time on this wonderful site far more fun and great. I am friends with a lot of users now because of it too.

    Sassafrass:
Actually, I do have a question for you.
Have you ever been rohipnolled by a swan and ended up in Cancun?
