Best tips to play the Final Fantasy XIV free trial

FFXIV can be overwhelming to play, especially if you’re just starting your adventure in Eorzea. For this reason, we have the following recommendations to help you get started on the right foot!

Do not be afraid to use the Beginner Support system

There are a few tools that will help you to familiarize yourself with the game: the Hall of the Novice and the Mentor system. The former will teach you the basic mechanics of whatever Class you chose to start with, and once you’re done there, you’ll be able to ask veterans for help, which will also boost your EXP gain if you play with them.

Play the main story

Final Fantasy XIV has one of the best stories in the whole series, and even though it takes a little bit to get there, you won’t regret it. The adventures of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn pave the way for some of the best story arcs in any MMORPG, and the game delivers a delightful narrative experience.

Try every single Class and Job

There will be 16 Classes for you to explore, and each one of them will let you experience the game through one of the three roles: Tank, DPS, and Healer. Learning these roles will help you to become versatile when you play with others, which opens a bigger realm of possibilities once you reach the high-end content.

Don’t neglect your Crafters and Gatherers

Just as your combat Classes are fun, the Crafting and Gathering Jobs are both engaging and useful. Being able to craft your own equipment helps you to save money, and in the later stages of the game, it will also be the main way to make more money!

If you haven’t played in a while, you can also return to the game for free. There is a Free login campaign going on, and you can revisit Eorzea from January 9, 2026, at 12:00 a.m. to Monday, February 9, 2026, at 6:59 a.m. (PST.)

You will have four days to play for as long as you want, until 11:59 p.m. on the fourth day (PST). To play during this campaign, you must follow these instructions:

  • Launch the FFXIV client and log in, and your free play period will begin immediately after logging into the launcher.
  • Now you can play the game for a limited time!
  • Once the free login period ends, you’ll have to renew your subscription if you wanna keep playing.

FFXIV free login campaign limitations

Because this campaign is specifically tailored for returning veterans, the following restrictions will be in place:

  • You must have previously purchased and registered Final Fantasy XIV.
  • Your service accounts must be set as inactive during the campaign period.
  • Your registered service account must have been inactive for at least thirty days.
  • If your account has been canceled or suspended due to a violation of the service agreement, you won’t be able to participate.
  • If you add time to your account during their free login period, you will forfeit the remaining duration of that period.
  • You cannot log in using a platform with unregistered service accounts.
