The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will give us a closed beta to look at soon and, big news, it will also be a Day One Game Pass release

The Expanse is probably some of the best science fiction in recent years. I progressed from the show to the books and never looked back, so it’s fair to say I am looking forward to Osiris Reborn — the game version of the Expanse universe from Owlcat Games.

While, despite watching closely for seemingly a long time, we still need to wait until “Spring 2027” for release, but at least that gives us time to get our Game Pass subscription in order so we can play it on Day One, as that is now a thing.

So, in case you have been living under a far-off space rock, let’s have a closer look.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is a story-driven action RPG set in The Expanse universe, which will focus on companions, player choice, and third-person combat. You take on the role of a Pinkwater Security mercenary who survives a catastrophic incident on Eros and must build a team to fight back against Protogen and its experiments. While it shares the same universe as the books and TV series, the game tells its own story with original characters.

The beta lets players explore a remote space station owned by Pinkwater Security after escaping the events on Eros. Players can explore the environment, interact with characters, and experiment with dialogue choices. As the group behind the Eros incident catches up, players will also get hands-on experience with combat and upgrade systems.

Interestingly, the beta will run until the game’s full launch next spring, so if you are prepared to dive in early – and the devs are keen to hear beta players’ feedback – you can jump in much quicker than next year.

How to play The Expanse beta

The beta launches on April 22nd on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will be available for founders who purchased The Collector’s Edition or Miller’s Pack, and will run until the game’s launch in Spring 2027. Founder’s Packs can be purchased on the official website.

Ah, I remember the heady days where playtesters used to beta test games and we didn’t pay to do it, maybe I am getting too old for this.
