Monster Hunter Wilds’ PC issues have long been documented, with Capcom promising fixes well into 2026.
Now, though, one player has taken it upon themselves to look into a fix for the game’s performance on Steam – and the answer isn’t quite what anyone was expecting.
User de_Tylmarande posted on the Monster Hunter subreddit that they’d previously helped fix FPS issues in Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2, so they decided to try their hand at Monster Hunter Wilds.
Here’s what they found.
Monster Hunter Wilds PC performance issues could be tied to DLC
According to the post, the 2025 action title’s performance dips are due to a regular check to see which DLC the player owns, with more DLC leading to increased performance.
Look, it sounds bonkers, but while we wait for the Digital Foundry analysis, de_Tylmarande essentially tricked the game into thinking they own all of the DLC (while also stressing it was done just to bypass Capcom’s checks, not to get the added content for free).
The result? “Performance went through the roof. Yes, without any CPU boost, in Balance mode. On any settings. The game literally flies,” they said.
While de_Tylmarande doesn’t recommend trying to fudge your DLC count to fool Capcom’s processes, they insist that this is a bug rather than the publisher trying to charge for better performance.
They’ve passed their information on to Capcom, too, in order to help improve the game’s performance for all players.
Apropos of nothing, Capcom actually released a new patch for the game today, but whether the fixes specified by de_Tylmarande are included is unlikely given the quick turnaround.
Could this be the answer to Monster Hunter Wilds’ longstanding performance problems on PC? Time will tell, but we’re eagerly anticipating an update.
And hey, maybe it’ll help make that reported transition to Nintendo Switch 2 a little smoother, too.
