Path of Exile 2 fans think we’re getting a second class in update 0.4.0 – but we’re not buying it

Path of Exile 2 has been out in early access for almost a year at this point, and developer Grinding Gear Games still has a lot of work to do to hit version 1.0.

In fairness, if the patches are as good as 0.3.0, they can take as long as they want. Still, with another big patch, 0.4.0, expected in December, the game is only likely to get better, though the studio has suggested it could be fully complete in 2026.

While fans are hankering for news on the next update, though, some have begun to suggest Grinding Gear Games could drop not one, but two classes in December.

No, we’re probably not getting a PoE 2 Templar in Patch 0.4.0

While we’re expecting Diablo 4 to add a Paladin/Templar/Crusader-style class in its next expansion, the Druid is likely next for Path of Exile 2.

The character has had plenty of time to cook, but was also shown off in a Gamescom demo back in 2023. Its key attributes are Strength and Intelligence, and it’ll be able to use elemental magic and shapeshift into various animal forms, which should make it feel nice and flexible buildcrafting-wise.

The Druid was originally planned to be in 0.3, but that patch was stacked anyway, even without a new class. The Huntress was the last class added, in patch 0.2, so it seems likely we’ll get a new class added this time around.

Still, despite it looking pretty nailed-on we’ll get the Druid in patch 0.4, some fans are suggesting we’ll get another class, too, potentially with the debut of the Templar in the game.

Look, I’d love it, too, but I don’t think it’s likely. For one, Grinding Gear Games works across both Path of Exile titles, and for another, there’s a good chance we’ll get new Ascendancies for existing classes in 0.4, too. That’s a lot of work on classes with just one being added, let alone a second.

The Templar would, however, also be a Strength and Intelligence character, so might end up starting in a similar spot on the game’s sprawling passive tree.

Then again, given the studio has plans for the game to be complete in 2026, it’s perhaps unlikely we’ll get a new character every six months. We’re still waiting for an Assassin, Gladiator, and Marauder on top of the Druid and Templar.
