Phasmophobia adds three new ghost types alongside returning Winter update

Phasmophobia sneakily added in three new ghost types, alongside deploying the new winter update to the game. The winter update is the yearly returning event, adding in Krampus-themed content to the maps. However, as part of the regular game update, there are now three new ghost types added to Phasmophobia, featuring the Dayan, Obambo and Gallu ghosts to throw some curve balls to the mix.

Table of Contents
  1. Dayan Ghost Type
  2. Gallu Ghost Type
  3. Obambo Ghost Type

The update launches the standard winter event, where players will have christmas modifiers on certain maps on the board,  indicated by the christmas present icon on the map board. The week will have double xp and money for the first week, from Dec 16-23, and will have community reward milestones to reach for new ID cards and other rewards.

But, the big news of the patch is they secretly added new ghost types to Phasmophobia, which are as follows:

Dayan Ghost Type

The Dayan Ghost Type is a new ghost with its niche all about getting too close to it. It will share similarities with the Jinn in its place of death. However, you will not only need to work out the location it likes, but also the actual location of the ghost itself.

To detect the ghost, you will require the following evidence:

  • EMF Level 5
  • Ghost Orb
  • Spirit Box

Playing on harder difficulties, you will probably want Ghost Orb and EMF Level 5, especially the one pointing to event locations. This should help you find the exact spot to make it easier tracking it. Camera and Ghost Orbs will likely help find its locations too. From there, you can walk in tough areas, trying to work out where it is, presuming you have strong Crucifixes nearby to prevent immediate hunts while you try to walk directly at it.

If you know where the ghost is, standing still makes it weaker, which should help you work out what the Dayan is amongst other more territorial ghost types in the game.

In terms of its secret behaviours, it seems like the Dayan behaves similarly to the Raiju. The ghost moves faster when you move, and its speed slows down when you stop during hunts.

Gallu Ghost Type

Gallu is one of the more aggressive ghost types, rivalling that of a Demon and Revenant. This ghost shares some similarities with the Obake, as it will get angrier the more you use protective equipment around it, like how the Obake uses flames around it. To detect this ghost, you will need:

  • EMF Level 5
  • Ultraviolet
  • Spirit Box

The strength of the ghost is that using protective equipment will strengthen the ghost by making them less effective. Things like Crucifix and incense spring to mind. These will gradually get less effective over time, so make studying this ghost fast as you’ll find longer more aggressive hunts more common.

However, the ghost also finds that being enraged exhausts the ghost, making those very same protective equipment even stronger.

Obambo Ghost Type

The Obambo’s lore is a ghost type that has mixed emotions, with it being both aggressive and calm, depending on encounter. The ghost can be determined by the following evidence:

  • Ghost Writing
  • Ultraviolet
  • D.O.T.S Projector

The strengths of the ghost can be found via very fast hunts, making it hunt above 70% sanity if it wants based on early reports, making it up there with Revenants and Demons.

The weakness of the ghost is that the ghost in its calm state can take a while to hunt. And when it does hunt, it is very slow to hunt and very easy to track during chases. It will likely confuse players.

So, this ghost will likely be confusing to determine early. So, you’d need to work out what hunt type it has while gathering evidence.

In other news, Phasmophobia is coming ot the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. We are also expecting the game to officially leaver early access in 2026 too, based on The Game Awards antics.
