RuneScape’s 2026 roadmap reveals life ahead after Treasure Hunter lootbox removal

As announced last November, Jagex will indeed remove the Treasure Hunter loot box from modern RunSscape after its community polled in favor of it going. As a result, January 19th sees the end of the Treasure Hunter system, and with it, declining opportunities to spend any remaining boxes and keys through chances to get rid of them through 2026.

In addition, Jagex has revealed a mighty Runescape roadmap for improving the core gameplay, adding quality of life content, and even more content in the future.

Jagex describes the new roadmap as a Road to Restoration. It’s all about the key parts of Runescape that people find fun, and what they actually log onto to do. It was something they teased in their 25 years of RuneScape celebration as the game goes through a transformational period for both OSRS and RS3.

2026 roadmap for RuneScape

The roadmap aims to greatly improve some of the popular yet lacking Skills in the game. The game will also get many key quality of life features, such as better graphics, avatar creations, some combat changes, Grand Exchange adjustments, and better events and Leagues.

There will even be better API support, helping players who like addons and other effects to be greatly supported. Overall, it’s a huge commitment to better content and generally improving the overall health and modernization of the game.

In terms of the main content patches, the roadmap will have the key details set across the following timelines:

  • Winter – Road To Restoration and Treasure loot box removal
  • Early Spring – Visual and combat modernization, alongside early game balancing updates
  • Late Spring/Early Summer – Dailyscape overhaul, Free RuneMetrics and updates to Overrides graphics and Aura overhaul gameplay updates
  • Summer – Grand Exchange changes, Mid game balancing updates, and a Deep Clean for many fixes to the game. Later in the summer, Construction skill raises to 120 with more progression linked recipes available for player housing
  • Autumn – Social improvements, Deep Clean part 2, End-Game balancing updates, and Player Avatar updates. Leagues will also return at some point in the Autumn too
  • Winter – API Plugin updates and MTX Item Banishment previously linked to Treasure Hunter

Note the main content update and new area, Journey to Havenhythe, will be released and updated throughout the year. As part of the year ahead, players will also experience the release of Havenhythe, the largest area expansion in the game’s 25-year history. The progressively vampiric Havenhythe will see the introduction of new quests and early-game bosses, as well as an increased level cap of 110 for the Hunter skill.

Rest assured, there’s a lot of content coming to Runescape as it enters a new era of the game’s history.
