Starrupture base

StarRupture has a map, but you need to know how to unlock it first

I’ve been playing a lot of StarRupture over the past couple of days, and it is really satisfying my Satisfactory itch. Not everything is how I like it, but that was inevitable after 600+ hours in Coffee Stain’s automation masterpiece.

It seems I am not alone as the game has set off with decent numbers on Steam, and there is already a clamoring for a console release going forward.

There are certain things I really like about StarRupture, including how it handles power and the Rupture events. The base upgrading is cool too, but with the contracts for the multiple companies to consider, there is a lot going on, and it is easy to miss some of the basic stuff early on, especially if it is, as is likely, your first run through the game.

For instance, wouldn’t it be super handy to have a map early on when you are trying to acclimate to your new home of Arcadia? It certainly would, but there is zero mention of one and you can quite happily go about your business, blissfully unaware you could be working towards unlocking one. So let’s clear all that up and show you how to get your map early doors

How to unlock the map in StarRupture

You don’t just get the map in StarRupture by default or by completing the tutorial that the game provides you with. You are going to need to unlock level 3 of the Moon Energy Corporation. Level 1 will see you sending Wolfram Bars x200, which is simple enough, but unlocking the next one requires 1500 Calcium Ore, which is a bit trickier to find. Each uploaded knocks five off the quota, though, so it isn’t quite as bad as it sounds.

If you locate a nearby Calcium deposit, you can set up an Ore Extractor and rail it to the OCL, and you can also find bits of calcium by farming meteorites. The easiest and quickest way to unlock it, though, is to scan your findings at the Analyser and throw all the data points at it. You only have to complete Level Two to claim the map and be on your way with this useful item.

How to use the map

Once you have unlocked the map using the above method, you can access it at any time by pressing the M key. The map, in theory, only shows you areas you have seen for yourself, so wandering around will expand its information. It also plots POIs as you go, things like dead bodies or buildings and so on.

On your travels, you will come across Geo Towers – these look like big satellite dishes and can be activated to expand your map without having to travel around to see for yourself. You will need to have an unlocked map to access one, but if you have one, you can approach them and press the E key. Be aware, though, that the sounds it makes will attract waves of attackers that you will need to fight off. These will chase you over a distance, so make sure you are armed (see below)

Get the pistol first

Here’s some good advice. Even though you want the map, you should unlock the pistol first and print some ammo for it. You don’t have to wander that far from the landing site before you start getting attacked by the inhabitants of the planet, and some of them are a real pain in the ass.

Unlock the pistol by completing a contract for the Griffits Blue Corporation to unlock Level 2. Unlocking Level 3 also gets you a grenade, which can be useful. Either use your Data Points from scanning findings at the Analyzer or create an Ore Extractor/Smelter combination to send the raw materials to the OCL, until you have fired enough into space to complete the job.

FAQ: StarRupture Map

Q1: Do you start with a map in StarRupture?
No. StarRupture does not give you a map by default, and it isn’t unlocked through the tutorial. You must unlock it through faction progression.

Q2: Which faction unlocks the map in StarRupture?
The map is unlocked by reaching Level 3 with Moon Energy Corporation.

Q3: What resources do you need to unlock the map?
You’ll need to complete Moon Energy Corporation contracts, including Wolfram Bars and Calcium Ore, or alternatively use scanned Data Points via the Analyzer.

Q4: How do you use the map once it’s unlocked?
Press the M key to open the map. It fills in as you explore and highlights points of interest. Geo Towers can also expand map visibility but attract enemies.

Q5: Should you unlock a weapon before going for the map?
Yes. Unlocking the pistol first is strongly recommended, as activating Geo Towers and exploring further from the landing site will trigger enemy attacks.
