Deadline reports that Harrison Ford's role is no mere cameo.
First, Carrie Fisher announced that she would be spending a whole six months filming Star Wars: Episode VII and now, Deadline is reporting that Harrison Ford's Han Solo will have a "gigantic role" in the upcoming film. It's looking very much like episode VII will be more about the "old" cast than the new one, with the focus to perhaps shift in the following two movies.
Deadline claims that Ford "has a gigantic role in the first of the next three films," and rumors speculate that Peter Mayhew's Chewbacca and Billy Dee Williams' Lando Calrissian will also be back. Series mainstays C-3P0 and R2-D2 will also be in it.
As for new cast members, Deadline also reports that Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac is in line for a major role, as is Adam Driver and Attack the Block's John Boyega, both of whom have been previously rumored. Furthermore, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, an Oxford-trained actress, has been rumored to have been in casting in recent weeks.
J.J. Abrams has "a big table read tomorrow with the cast in London, and so he's finally going to be forced to fess up shortly," so we won't have to wait too long to confirm these casting reports.
