Call of Duty was created in 2003 by former Medal of Honor developers at Infinity Ward and quickly became a yearly franchise. The series evolved significantly with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which redefined the multiplayer shooter genre. Since then, it has expanded into multiple subfranchises, including Modern Warfare and Black Ops, as well as experimental entries.
