No Time to Die trailer James Bond

After dropping a tantalizing trailer for this trailer two days ago, MGM has released the first actual trailer for the 25th Bond film — and possibly Daniel Craig’s last — No Time to Die. Cue Bond theme.

After Danny Boyle’s removal from No Time to Die early on, indie director Cary Joji Fukunaga got the nod to direct, and he appears to have brought a certain rawness and beauty to the franchise that stands out from the stunning beauty of Sam Mendes’ previous two films, especially Skyfall, which was shot by the legendary Roger Deakins. It’s a good look for Bond, yet No Time to Die seems to still carry that stylish “je ne sais quoi” that makes a Bond film a Bond film. Plus, that Aston Martin.

The No Time to Die trailer opens on the classic Bond car and dives right into (gasp) continuity with Bond (Craig) seeming to have lost trust in his love from Spectre, Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux). He’s pulled back into action by Felix Leiter for a mission only he can handle but runs counter a new 00 agent played by Lashana Lynch and must deal with Blofeld (Christoph Waltz) once again. That, of course, is all in the name of fighting what looks to be a deliciously disturbing villain, Safin (Rami Malek). Malek looks like a perfectly classic Bond villain with a burned face. There are even hints of a classic Bond/villain showdown in store for all of us, with Craig delivering the line, “History isn’t kind to men who play god,” with the conviction of a man on his final mission.

Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Billy Magnussen, Ana de Armas, Rory Kinnear, David Dencik, Dali Benssalah, and Ralph Fiennes will also star in the movie. No Time to Die opens on April 8, 2020.
