Next up in the recent spate of making animated spin-off fare of popular franchises is Netflix’s Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. The show dropped a new, longer trailer that gives us a feeling for what the kid-friendly series will be about and features plenty of dinosaurs chasing teenagers across a new adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar, which is where the first movie took place.
The premise, and even some of the shots, aren’t anything new for the franchise, but couching it in a kids show is. Obviously, the opening of the Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous trailer is playing into the contrast between a kids show and the actual horrors of being chased by a giant dinosaur, but it will be interesting to watch them balance out the action. It’s pretty doubtful the Mosasaurus is going to enjoy as big a meal as it did in the films. The show will follow six campers as they attempt to escape the island, being tested and pulled closer together as they do.
Alongside the new trailer, Netflix revealed an interactive website for kids to explore the camp themselves. You can go there, poke around a bit, and check out “the treetop cabins, the incredible zipline, and pop into the genetics lab located deep in the jungle of Isla Nublar.” That last part sounds about right for the kind of security prevalent in the world of Jurassic World. Let’s just let the kids into the genetics lab and see what happens!
