Modus Games debuted a stunning new trailer for literary platformer Lost Words: Beyond The Page today during the 2020 NY Videogame Awards.
The new footage provides the most extensive look yet at the game’s gorgeous environments, while also hinting at some of the tumultuous emotions set to be explored by the writer-protagonist. Where previous trailers have focused on the frame story of a girl creating a fantasy story within her journal, this new trailer centers on that fantasy, revealing that the playable character will be on an adventure to find out why her village was attacked.
Consequently, the gameplay included in this trailer focuses on platforming, rather than the innovative use of words to affect the environment.
The trailer ends with a new release window of Spring 2020, when Lost Words will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
Developed by Sketchbook Games, the project has been written by Rhianna Pratchett, acclaimed for her work on Mirror’s Edge and the Tomb Raider reboot series. Yahtzee went hands-on with the game at E3 last year, saying that it has a “Very Child of Light, Life is Strange, Edith Finch sort of vibe” and that “it felt quite personal” to Pratchett.
