I like to think of this as an alternate ending for the Peanuts series. They’re just children pretending their way through life in the ghost town of a dead civilization.
No adult survivors. Between comic strips, Lucy and Charlie Brown must venture further and further afield to scavenge supplies. Eventually they see things that can’t be unseen. Rats!
