X-Men: First Class Shows Off Its Cast in New Meet-and-Greet Trailers

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

Like all the best comic book movies, you don’t need to have read a lot of comics to know who’s who in X-Men: First Class.

If you’re a fan of the X-Men comics, you almost certainly know the names Beast, Havok, and Banshee, but if you’re not such a big comic book reader, you’re probably in the dark about who everyone is. Have no fear though, as Fox has released three short X-Men: First Class trailers to get you up to speed.

Each trailer focuses on a different character, letting you put a face and a mutant power to the name. While there’s some obviously some deviation from the comics – the comic book version of Banshee, for example, is closer to Professor X’s age than he is the other X-Men – but on the whole, it seems fairly faithful. The movie even includes things the filmmakers could have left out, like Havok getting his special suit that helps his contain and direct his powers, or Beast’s efforts to “cure” himself.

The trailers themselves are very well done, giving just the right amount of information so that the layperson knows what’s going on without overloading them with knowledge. James McAvoy also seems to be putting in a really great performance as Professor X, which is no mean feat when you consider he’s following in Patrick Stewart’s footsteps. The only concern is that the movie might be a little exposition-heavy, especially as very few of the characters have appeared in previous X-Men movies. Of course, it’s impossible to tell from three minutes of footage what the shape of the overall movie is going to be.

X-Men: First Class comes out on June 3rd.
