The Child’s Play Charity Dinner Auction set a new record with its 2007 event, amassing a total of $225,000 for the evening.

Taking place on December 11, the event attracted more than 400 gaming enthusiasts and industry members to the Washington State Convention and Trade Center to bid on 16 announced lots and three secret auctions. The $225,000 raised over the course of the evening broke all previous records for the event, and pushed the charity’s yearly total to $851,000, far surpassing the 2007 goal of $750,000.

Highlights of the auction included a United Nations Space Command-branded duffel bag packed with rare Halo merchandise including the very exclusive Recon Armor for Halo 3 which closed at $5,800, the surprise addition of a plush Weighted Companion Cube and a tour of Valve’s offices to a lot of Orange Box merchandise which pushed the bidding to $2,500, and an attempted auction of Jerry “Tycho” Holkins’ pants.

Established in 2003 by Holkins and Mike “Gabe” Krahulik of Penny Arcade fame, Child’s Play has grown to offer support to over 45 hospitals in six countries, raising over $2 million in games, toys and cash for children’s hospitals worldwide via an ongoing online toy drive and the annual charity auction. Donations for this year’s charity drive will be accepted until December 31. More information is available at www.childsplaycharity.org.
