Spinal Tap Comes to Rock Band

To mark the 25th anniversary of the groundbreaking rockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, Harmonix and MTV Games have announced the upcoming release of the classic soundtrack on the Rock Band Music Store.

In 1984, documentary filmmaker Marty DiBergi turned the music world on its ear with the release of This Is Spinal Tap, a behind-the-scenes look at the North American comeback tour of one of the preeminent heavy metal bands of the age. The film and accompanying soundtrack would go on to become a landmark in the history of rock and roll, and 25 years later the evolution of that vision continues with the upcoming release of the soundtrack as Rock Band DLC.

All 11 tracks from the movie, which were recently “re-imagined and newly interpreted” by the band for its latest CD Back From the Dead, will be released for the game, including famous classics like “Sex Farm,” “Big Bottom,” “Gimme Some Money,” “Hell Hole” and “Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You Tonight.” I don’t normally do announcements of upcoming DLC for music games but I was more than happy to make an exception in this case because hey, this is Spinal Tap.

“Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You Tonight” had previously appeared on Guitar Hero 2 but this is the first opportunity for gamers to rock out to a full album’s worth of material from the only band that goes all the way to 11. Just do yourself a favor and make somebody else play the drums.

The new DLC will be released on August 4 for the Xbox 360 and Wii, and August 6 for the PlayStation 3, and will cost $1.99 per track or $17.99 for the whole thing in the Spinal Tap’s TAP TEN collection.
