A Link Between Worlds Trailer Contains a Musical Easter Egg

A section of music from a recent trailer for A Link Between Worlds reveals some old-school inspirations when reversed.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is nothing if not a game geared toward making you feel nostalgic about the series’ past. In fact, we wholly expect to play the game and find winks aplenty to the franchise’s past and the game’s predecessor, the SNES classic A Link to the Past. In fact, the game isn’t even out yet and already Nintendo is unleashing nostalgic nods.

For instance, some fans, watching a recent trailer showcasing the new game’s music, noticed something familiar about a section of music played during a dungeon segment. Said music, when reversed, is in fact the Hyrule Castle-theme from A Link to the Past.

This, of course, isn’t the first time a Zelda game’s music has harkened back to a past title. The Ballad of the Goddess from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, for instance, was pretty quickly confirmed to be Zelda’s Lullaby from Ocarina of Time played backwards. Nonetheless, content like this just strikes us as a clever way of integrating the series’ long running history into new games in a way that, honestly, we might not even have noticed if someone hadn’t pointed it out to us. A Link Between Worlds is set to release later this month on November 22nd.
