Activision is joining with the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation for the Guitar Hero III Starlight Charity Challenge to benefit sick kids and their families.

Activision will donate $1 to the Starlight Starbright Foundation for every Guitar Hero fan who registers for the contest, which will have gamers competing for the highest score possible playing Matchbook Romance’s “Monsters.” The publisher will also donate $100 for every 1000 points achieved by the highest individual score in the contest, providing up to $55,000 directly to Foundation programs that provide entertainment, education and family activities to seriously ill children and their families.

Activision is also holding a second, parallel challenge especially for ill teenagers and their siblings who are part of the Foundations Starbright World online community: The highest-scoring metalhead from the Starbright World community will join the top-scoring rocker from the Guitar Hero III competition for an all-expense paid trip for two to Southern California and a tour of Neversoft Entertainment, the company behind Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

Sign-ups for the competition are being taken until 7:59 p.m. EDT on May 2, with both competitions beginning at 8:00 p.m. the same day and running until 7:59 p.m. on May 5. More information and sign-up instructions are available at guitarhero.com.
