Bay Goes From Transformers to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The man known for putting Megan Fox on the map is hoping he can bring four ass-kicking turtles to the same level.

In a deal ironed out this week, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon have brought in Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company to reboot the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. In opposition to 2007’s TMNT, which used computer-generated turtles, Bay’s film is presumed to be based on the 1990s live-action Turtles films. For now, Bay is only in the producer’s seat.

Bay is recently known for directing the Transformers movies, with Transformers 3 on the future horizon. When he isn’t gallivanting with Victoria’s Secret models to cast the upcoming movie, he’s producing remakes of horror films, such as April’s A Nightmare on Elm Street. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a new kind of reboot project for Bay’s company, seeing as how it probably won’t involve horrific murder.

Nickelodeon acquired the global rights to the entire Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise in October for $60 million, and now hopes to make some of that green back by bringing the green to the big screen. The first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action movie was released in 1990 and was a massive success. The two subsequent sequels weren’t quite as successful, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze did bring the world a great scene featuring Vanilla Ice.

If Bay brings Ice back, the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film would be an assured success. And hey, why not cast Megan Fox as April O’Neil?
