The British Board of Film Classification has decided to carry on the fight against Manhunt 2, applying for a judicial review of the recent appeal which overturned its ban against the notorious Rockstar game.

GamesIndustry.biz has reported that the BBFC is seeking to suspend the Video Appeals Committee’s decision to classify the game prior to the review, as well as have the decision overturned. According to a statement released by the BBFC, the action comes as a result of concerns that the successful appeal could have a significant impact on future decisions by the Board.

“The BBFC is contesting the VAC judgment because in the Board’s view, it is based on an approach to harm which is an incorrect interpretation of the Video Recordings Act,” the statement said. “The VAC judgment, if allowed to stand, would have fundamental implications with regard to all the Board’s decisions, including those turning upon questions of unacceptable levels of violence.”

The BBFC’s decision means Manhunt 2 will remain off store shelves in the U.K. until the judicial review is settled.
