BioShock Coming to the Mac Next Month

Yes, you can still play games on a Mac, and soon one of the better releases of the 21st centuty.

While the rest of the world has been busy getting hyped up for the release of BioShock 2 in February, Macintosh owners have been praying every night simply for the chance to experience the original. Well Macintosh owners, your prayers have finally been answered.

BioShock will be released in Europe and North America for the Macintosh on October 7, 2009. At this point, I think it’s safe to say that the Mac as a gaming platform will never, ever, be on the same level as the PC. BioShock was released in North America for the PC more than two years ago on August 21, 2007. That’s a large passage of time, especially when you consider that BioShock is a pretty big game and has been since its release.

According to Amazon.com, only 18 games have been released on the Macintosh in the past 90 days, as opposed to 203 on the PC. These stats are not the be-all-end-all of statistics, but they give you a general idea of the difference between the two platforms. It has been this way ever since I was a kid too. I specifically remember because for a few years there I only had access to a Macintosh (which I loved anyway and still sits in my closet). In fact, things are probably worse now, as Mac exclusives like Marathon at one time are just about non-existent. The battle is over and I think everyone knows it.

But that doesn’t mean that Macintosh exclusive gamers don’t still exist out there. And to ease your pain, those of you out there, I recommend an immediate purchase of BioShock when it is released next month. The journey to Rapture, BioShock‘s setting, is one of the finest experiences gaming has to offer. Hopefully the game’s story hasn’t been spoiled ten times over by now.
