Blizzard All-Stars Becomes Heroes of the Storm

This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Blizzard has changed the name of its upcoming MOBA from Blizzard All-Stars to Heroes of the Storm

Last month, Blizzard filed a trademark application for a game called Heroes of the Storm. At the time, we had very little information about what Blizzard was planning to do with the title, and if I’m being honest, we still don’t know much. However, we can finally stop speculating about an announced game, or a World of Warcraft expansion. Heroes of the Storm is simply the rebranded title for Blizzard All-Stars.

“Yep, we’ve changed it again,” reads trailer’s YouTube description. Blizzard All-Stars, which was formerly called Blizzard DOTA when it was announced in 2010, is a free-to-play MOBA in the same vein as League of Legends. Players will take control of their favorite heroes from the Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft franchises.

Even though the trailer is chock-full of adorable violence, it’s extremely light on details. Blizzard is saving those for BlizzCon. “Set aside whatever you think you knew about Blizzard All-Stars,” the description says, “and get ready for what’s brewing at this year’s BlizzCon (Nov. 8-9, 2013).”

Blizzard isn’t exactly known for its punctuality, though. So, it’s probably a good idea to adopt a position of patience when it comes to Heroes of the Storm. The game is currently being beta tested, and even though BlizzCon is only a few weeks away, there’s no guarantee that the game is going to hit the market any time soon.
