Desolate landscapes, fast-paced action, and cosmically horrific bosses – what more could you ask for? The next game that’s set to come out from the team at Housemarque is SAROS, and based on what’s been revealed so far, it’s looking like a hit.

To help you prepare for launch day, we’ve gathered everything currently known about the title, including the SAROS release date, gameplay style, and overall themes, along with the delayed release details.

The Escapist recaps

  • SAROS is an upcoming sci-fi action game from the team at Housemarque, promising a story-led, action-packed game with a moreish gameplay loop. Housemarque is known for games like Returnal.
  • SAROS was initially due to come out on March 20, 2026, for both PS5 and PS5 Pro, but it has now been pushed back to April 30, 2026, as confirmed at The Game Awards 2025.
  • Based on gameplay shown off in the September 2025 State of Play showcase, SAROS looks like a strong blend of sci-fi shooter, third-person action, and an almost roguelite format, thanks to the permanent progression system in place.
  • SAROS pre-orders are currently available, including the Digital Deluxe Edition.
  • As per the official listing for SAROS on the PlayStation Store, it will not be available to pick up on PS4. It does not seem likely that other platforms will receive this game, but this article will be updated if this changes.

When will SAROS be released?

SAROS was initially due to be released on March 20, 2026, as confirmed by a blog post from Housemarque’s Creative Director on the official PlayStation site.

However, it was announced at The Game Awards 2025 that the SAROS release date will now be April 30, 2026, meaning players have a little more time to wait.

SAROS prices and pre-orders

SAROS will cost $69.99, with the Digital Deluxe Edition coming in at $79.99 and including 48 hours of early access, along with some cosmetic options. Pre-orders are available for both editions on the PlayStation Store.

SAROS will only be available on PS5, with an enhanced version for the PS5 Pro. There have been no official comments about the game appearing on other platforms, but this article will be updated if anything changes.

SAROS trailer & gameplay analysis

Five minutes of SAROS gameplay were shown off in the September 2025 State of Play showcase, highlighting the unique play style and beautifully eerie world that the game will offer its players.

The SAROS trailer showcased the main character, Arjun Devraj, running through what appears to be a temple or abandoned base, firing a weapon at hordes of enemies. The movement appears fast and fluid, with a unique, spherical barrier ability to help protect against additional hazards.

SAROS is set in an off-world colony called Carcosa. Not much is known about this location yet, but the game world feels ominous and ethereal based on the clips seen so far, with nightmarish lighting and looming structures.

There’s a permanent progression system in place with SAROS, meaning that the world will change and adapt each time you die, but you can keep making Arjun stronger each time, with permanent upgrades in place, almost like a roguelite.

Who is Arjun Devraj in SAROS?

Arjun Devraj is the main character of SAROS, voiced by the actor Rahul Kohli. Arjun is described as a “Soltari Enforcer” in official game marketing, and he appears to be on a mission to find someone, no matter the cost.

Arjun will have access to a variety of Soltari human gear and Carcosa alien gear when starting a run, allowing for creative builds and customization.

As more details become available about SAROS, we’ll be sure to update this article, so make sure to check back. The gameplay that’s been shown off for this game so far looks punchy and fast-paced, and the setting of Carcosa seems intriguing, too. SAROS should have plenty for fans of sci-fi shooters to fall in love with.

Ask The Escapist

What type of game is SAROS?

SAROS is a sci-fi shooter with a permanent progression-styled gameplay loop.

Will SAROS be available on PC?

At the time of writing, the only confirmed platforms for SAROS are PS5 and PS5 Pro, so it seems unlikely that it’ll be available on PC.

Where does SAROS take place?

SAROS takes place on an off-world colony called Carcosa. The clips from the game so far show Carcosa just before a total eclipse happens.
