Developers DICE have spoken out about the issues dogging Battlefield 1943.

The launch of Battlefield 1943 has hit a few bumps along the way, with players experiencing a variety of problems including crippling lag and seemingly random disconnections. Not a great start by anyone’s standards, but developer DICE say that the game is a victim of its own success.

On the EA community forums, DICE producer Gordon Van Dyke posted: “Good News, the game is incredibly successful beyond even my expectations. We have reached server capacity, but the bad news about this now some people can’t join unless someone leaves.”

DICE and EA sprung into action, adding more servers, but discovered new bugs along the way and so had to iron those out as well. According to the latest update, the game should be working for most people, but there are still people having connection issues.

It’s not all doom and gloom though, at least not for EA and DICE. Within 24 of the games release, players racked up nearly 30 years of playing time and got over 5 million kills. Which is great and all, but not really all that comforting to the people unable to play the game.
