Nintendo clears middleware developer Engine Software for working on the Wii.

Netherlands-based Engine Software announced that Nintendo of America has approved the company as an officially licensed Wii developer. The Wii Developer License is the seventh Nintendo license that Engine Software has acquired, following its licenses for the Nintendo DS, Game Cube, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Color, Gameboy and Super Nintendo. Although the developer has no currently announced projects, Engine Software will be looking into developing titles for Nintendo’s WiiWare platform while maintaining its middleware tools, such as Music & Sound Replayer, for the Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS platforms.

Ruud van de Moosdyk, Vice President of Development at Engine Software, said, “We are very happy to have acquired the Wii Licensed Developer status, as this will open up new creative opportunities for our team, as well as new business opportunities for our company. In the last few months many of our clients have already inquired whether or not we support Wii development, so demand for developers is high.”
