Europe a “Priority” for Spore Team

Spore developer Maxis said the game will be released in Europe two days earlier than the U.S. because of business priorities.

“Europe probably represents about 60 percent or more of our PC business, so getting it right in Europe is going to be a real focus over the next few months,” Patick Buechner said, although he also claimed Maxis always aimed for concurrent release.

“Getting the launch right, getting the game working right here, getting those online features working in Europe. … Europe is the priority for Spore,” he added.

The hotly anticipated title, the development of which is led by Will Wright, creator of The Sims franchise, has repeatedly been delayed since 2006. The September 5 Europe release date was the first time the company committed to a concrete date.

Buechner sought to emphasize this last development in his comments, saying, “Most of the fansites that I was reading, and most of the forum posts that I was reading, they’re just really happy to have an actual date that’s official.”
