Rumor: Final Fantasy Spin-Off from Team Ninja with Nioh / Souls Action in Development

This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information

Over the weekend, there were rumors that Square Enix andĀ Ninja Gaiden /Ā Nioh developer Team Ninja were collaborating together to make a Final Fantasy action spinoff game, and now, per Fanbyte‘s Imran Khan, the title is reportedly Final Fantasy Origin. The two companies have previously worked together on the fighting game Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

Fanbyte sources say that the title will be a console exclusive to PlayStation 5 with a PC version launching later. This is similar to how both Nioh and Nioh 2 rolled out, first on PlayStation platforms, then later on Steam. Square is reportedly hoping to release an alpha demo this summer called “Stranger in Paradise” as the game is still in early production, but the game will allegedly be set in the world of the original Final Fantasy.

In terms of gameplay, this title will reportedly play similarly to Nioh and games in the Soulslike genre but will be more accessible. That would suggest that Team Ninja does not intend Final Fantasy Origin to be as difficult as games in the genre are known for being.

Additionally, the development team reportedly consists of mostly team members that worked on Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. However, Team Ninja has almost 200 people in its studio, and it looks like Nioh‘s developers are involved as well, most likely influencing the final product.

Hopefully, this game will be revealed during E3 2021. Square Enix also has other projects lined up for PlayStation 5, including Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade launching in June and Final Fantasy XVI coming later.
