Gamespot hits the gaming gridiron with its acquisition of SportsGamer.com.
Major gaming website GameSpot has acquired an online gaming community focused on sports games. Founded in May 2006, the New York City- and Cincinnati-based SportsGamer.com covers mainstream sports titles, including FIFA soccer, NFL football, Major League Baseball, NHL hockey and NASCAR racing. Rather than providing reviews or news, SportsGamer provides strategies, gameplay videos, leaderboards and the community-building tools typical of modern websites, such as blogs and forums.
GameSpot Senior Editor Brian Ekberg commented, “I’m really excited to have SportsGamer as part of the GameSpot team. The site’s intense focus on postrelease coverage of the biggest sports titles is just one of the things that sets it apart. In the coming months, we hope to expand the reach of both our sites to continue to bring readers the best sports game coverage around.”
