Contrary to street rumors, the PlayStation 3 is no harder to code for than the Xbox 360, said a Ubisoft official.
“It’s wrong to say it’s harder to code on the PlayStation 3, it’s just something that needs to be learned,” said Yann Le Tensorer, Co-Founder of Ubisoft’s Tiwak studio, who also helped make the engine powering the popular tactical first-person shooter Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. “It’s not harder to develop on the PS3 than it is on the 360, it’s just a different console. Developers might say it’s harder because it just takes time to understand the technology. We’re still early in the life cycle.”
Le Tensorer also cited the blockbuster God of War for the PlayStation 2 as an example of how late into a system’s life cycle its full potential may be discovered.
His comments come in the wake of Sony’s failure to hold onto or attract a strong list of PS3-exclusive titles. Though Warhawk is a PS3 exclusive and Unreal Tournament 3 will hold that distinction until 2008, a number of other A-list titles, including previous Sony exclusives, have gone cross-platform or have foregone the PS3 altogether.
