After more than twenty years in the industry, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has been given the Lifetime Achievement award at the GDC Awards, but Mr Kojima assures us that he has plenty more years left in him.

Mr Kojima is the ninth recipient of the award, and joined such luminaries as Shigeru Miyamoto, Will Wright and the late Gunpei Yokoi. As he accepted his award, Mr Kojima told the assembled crowd, “I have to say, even though I received this award, let me state that I will not retire. I will continue to create games as long as I live”.

Kojima’s career in the videogames began when he joined Konami’s MSX division in 1986. After a few false starts, he wrote and directed the seminal Metal Gear, and the rest is, as they say, history. Since then, Kojima’s name have become synonymous with the Metal Gear franchise, but as he closed the book on the series with Metal Gear Solid 4, we shall just have to wait and see what Mr Kojima will produce in the next twenty years.
