Highguard crossplay and cross-progression explained: How to link accounts

Highguard is out now as a free-to-play title, and it features crossplay right from the jump. It also features cross-progression, but it’s not obvious how to set it up. Thankfully, the process is simple if you know where to go.

Here’s all we know about crossplay and cross-save (cross-progression) in Highguard, including how to set the latter up.

The Escapist recaps

  • Highguard players can link accounts across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox to continue where they left off.
  • The game is free-to-play, so you can play with your friends without spending a penny.
  • You can also link your Twitch account for Twitch Drops.

Highguard Crossplay explained

Good news, folks – crossplay is here right from the get-go, meaning you can jump into Highguard on Xbox with your buddies on PC or PS5.

The game has its own friends list system, so grab their Highguard account name and go from there using the social menu on the game’s main menu.

Having spent a few hours on the PS5 version of Highguard, I wanted to jump over to the PC version via Steam and pick up where I left off.

It wasn’t immediately obvious how to do so, though, but I found a handy support page.

Simply put, you’ll need to log in at this link: portal.playhighguard.com. Doing so will let you sign in with your existing platform ID.

On the left-hand side of the screen, click ‘Linked Accounts’. Here, you can link your Twitch account for drops or your other platform IDs.

Note: Linking your account to another that has already played the game will wipe that account’s progress. Be sure you’re logged in on the platform where you’ve made the most progress.

Once that’s done, you can jump onto Highguard on any platform that you’ve linked and pick up from wherever your primary account was – including currency, levels, skins, and more. Wildlight does say “Wallet balance will be the only thing that remains separate,” so bear that in mind.

You’ll need to contact support to unlink accounts.

Ask The Escapist

Is Highguard free-to-play?

Yes, Highguard is totally free, with paid cosmetics to come.

Which platforms is Highguard available on?

You can play Highguard on PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

What’s with all the noise around the game?

After being the final reveal at The Game Awards 2025, the game went quiet until right before launch. Some took this as a measure of its quality before it even launched.
