Hot Wheels Unleashed Review in 3 Minutes – A Fantastic Licensed Racer

Recommended Videos

Hot Wheels Unleashed is an arcade racer by Milestone, the team behind the MotoGP franchise. You’re able to take those classic toy cars and race them through familiar real-world locales like a kitchen, a college dorm, or a construction site. While that doesn’t sound all that enticing, you’re doing it from the perspective of the 1:64 scale vehicles, turning things like ventilation shafts into awesome race set pieces.

The game is jaw-droppingly gorgeous. The attention to detail is astounding: cars with movable pieces bounce around realistically, tint on windows shows scratches at the end of a race, and the light reflecting off of cars and tracks might be the best I’ve seen yet this generation. There’s a sense of love and appreciation for the Hot Wheels brand on display here that should be looked at for any licensed product going forward. If anything, I would have loved a museum of sorts with blurbs or historical information about each car for me to learn more about them.

As it stands, Hot Wheels Unleashed is a fantastic arcade racer that does right by the beloved toy license. Hot Wheels Unleashed is out now for $49.99 on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
