Proteus is coming to PS3 and Vita this Fall as a Cross Buy title.
Hot on the heels of the PSN release of the indie hit Hotline Miami, Sony and Curve Studios have announced that the PS3 and Vita will both be privy to yet another indie darling. Proteus, an award-winning nature exploration game created by the two man team of Ed Key and David Kanaga, is in the process of being ported to the PlayStation Network.
Proteus, which tasks players with the first person exploration of an uninhabited island impressed many with its simplicity and, conversely, the surprisingly deep experience that emerged from it. “A lot of games get called ‘unique’, but we think there’s honestly nothing quite like Proteus,” said Rob Clarke with Curve Studios. “It’s a game all about exploration, mystery, color and sound.” Players in Proteus, aren’t tasked with killing enemies or fighting any foes. Rather the goal is simply to explore your surroundings and witness how the environment changes as time goes by. The island at the center of the experience, in turn, is procedurally generated, allowing for multiple unique playthroughs.
“Here at Curve we’ve been working with Ed to make the PS Vita and PS3 versions even better than the original,” said Clarke. “Over the next few months we’re going to have more information on how we’re using the power of PS3 and PS Vita to bring the absolute best Proteus experience to you guys.” While no specific release date has been announced, a Fall launch window has been confirmed. The PSN version of Proteus will also have Cross Buy functionality, making it possible for players who buy the game on PS3 to play it on their Vita, and vice versa.
