Rap mogul Master P has teamed up with actor Seth Green to produce a new hip-hop roleplaying game called Play the Industry.
The game will take place in a 3-D world in which players will work their way to the top as an athlete, power broker, hip-hop artist or other character type. Development is in the early stages; a script is being worked on, while financing and developers are being lined up by Master P’s P Miller Enterprises, Green’s Stoopid Monkey Prods and ShadowMachine Films, which have partnered for the production. Matthew Senreich, Green’s partner at Stoopid Monkey, has said the final game will likely have more in common with The Sims than with conventional shooting or fighting games. “You can play agent, you can play mogul, you play all sorts of different characters,” he said.
“We really want to take the time and make sure we do this right, but the good thing we have going into this is we are developing the creative ahead of time, and we’re very close to having that up and running,” he added.
Along with the game, the producers are also looking into expanding the Play the Industry concept into a movie, reality television series and a line of clothing. The current release date target is late 2009.
