Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is very much like its predecessor, but packaged in better eye candy and with more wrapping, according to a straightforward preview from Shacknews.
The new title, slated for the fourth quarter of this year, will add offline cooperative and online two-player modes.
In terms of gameplay, however, much is apparently the same – you shoot lots of things and make big explosions. The title is hardly stealth inspired – one can land grappling hooks on helicopters, swing up and toss out occupants.
Not only vehicles, but entire buildings and developments can be razed to the ground. “It was clear that much of development focused on creating a large, beautiful world for players to raise,” the preview noted.
The storyline is a nebulous cocktail of fantasy and fiction, involving Venezuelan oil, the Chinese army and pirates. Various locales in these settings will be available for destruction with over 200 vehicles.
The preview concluded, “Fans of the original formula will undoubtedly be pleased with the new graphical touches and cooperative support, while those unhappy with the basic nature of the original are unlikely to find much new.”
