Here’s a great way to start your day: A live-action version of the classic LucasArts adventure The Secret of Monkey Island.
A brief background, in case there’s anyone not familiar with it: Released in 1990, The Secret of Monkey Island is one of LucasArts’ famous SCUMM adventures, telling the tale of young Guybrush Threepwood and his efforts to become a pirate. Along the way, Guybrush discovers love, adventure and a panoply of memorable characters like Herman Toothrot, the Men of Low Moral Fiber and of course the game’s central villain, the evil pirate LeChuck. The game spawned three sequels, and the series is widely regarded as among the best efforts of LucasArts’ heyday. For fans of Grim Fandango and Psychonauts, the game is also noteworthy as the first game Tim Schafer is credited with co-creating, along with fellow LucasArts vets Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman.
The video runs just over ten minutes – can you hold your breath that long?
UPDATE: As our loyal forum readers pointed out, this is only the first of a nine-part series of videos chronicling the Secret of Monkey Island. To see the rest, point yourself at the World of Monkey Island, where you can download the videos in various formats or link to all nine parts, plus a “blooper reel,” at YouTube.
