Fans of The Witcher received good news today as Atari announced the release of the 1.3 patch for the game, the D’jinni beta adventure editor and a free new adventure for Geralt of Rivia.
The Price of Neutrality, the first official adventure to be released for the game, is bundled with the 1.3 patch. Offering roughly two hours of new gameplay, Price of Neutrality will provide more details about Geralt’s fellow Witchers, who were briefly introduced at the beginning of the original game. The game will take place in the outskirts of Kaer Morhen, featuring new NPCs and graphical assets, and will confront players with more tough decision-making featured in The Witcher that will lead to one of multiple possible endings.
The D’jinni editor will let fans build completely new adventures for Geralt through the use of in-game assets, maps and environments, allowing players to create new stories, cutscenes, effects, dialog and gameplay actions. “CD Projekt has always been oriented to gamers’ needs, so releasing an adventure editor for the modding community is an obvious move,” said CD Projekt RED CEO Adam Kiciński. “It’s quite a demanding tool, however, and it will bring loads of satisfaction to many of the fans. After all, we made The Witcher with this tool.”
“We’ve also prepared the first official mod with a completely new adventure which will be available to download for free,” he added.
Released in October 2007, The Witcher told the tale of Geralt of Rivia, a mercenary monster hunter navigating the treacherous political intrigue of a morally-ambiguous fantasy world. The game received accolades for reflecting real-life ethical issues more accurately than most games by confronting the player with choices of hazy morality that would often have far-reaching in-game consequences. The Witcher earned largely positive reviews from RPG fans and websites, and CD Projekt recently announced that an enhanced version of the game will be released later this year.
