New Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Trailer Hints at Mutant Zombies

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

It’s got a clone, some underpants, and a big floating head. It must be another Marvel vs. Capcom 3 trailer.

The third MvC 3 story trailer gives another glimpse at some the odd partnerships and equally odd rivalries that the game does so well. This time round, one of the most dangerous mutants in the Marvel universe helps himself to a fine Umbrella vintage, much to the chagrin of its previous owners.

The trailer opens with Resident Evil’s Chris Redfield bursting in on his long time foe Albert Wesker, who has teamed up with the villainous flying head MODOK. Wesker holds up a metal briefcase, which all of a sudden begins to move and tear, seemingly of its own accord. It only takes a moment for the real culprit to show himself however, as Magneto tries to take the contents of the case – an vial of orange fluid marked with a biohazard symbol – for his own.

Chris wasn’t so foolhardy that he confronted Wesker alone however, and his backup – Arthur and X-23 – leap into action. Unfortunately, Arthur’s armor and X-23’s adamantium claws prove to be more of a hindrance than a help against the master of magnetism, who flings the pair backwards. Arthur is able to save himself by getting out of his armor, but X-23 doesn’t have the luxury of just dumping her metal items. Luckily, the timely intervention of the Hulk stops her from slamming into the wall.

The trailer ends with Magneto’s fingers closing around the vial, with a steely determination in his eyes. As the briefcase belonged to Wesker, it’s a pretty safe bet that its contents are a virus that will have some adverse effect on human biology, and that Magneto plans to use it to further his pro-mutant agenda. I’m assuming that these trailers have something to do with the MvC 3’s story mode, and aren’t just something that Capcom is throwing together for fun, so we should be able to learn the details of Magneto’s nefarious scheme when the game comes out next year.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 comes out for PS3 and Xbox 360 on Febraury 15th.
