15-year-old modder syncs Minecraft and Hytale clients in impressive technical feat

Simon and co. did say that Hytale is both a block game and an engine. And boy, were they right. While we’ve seen some incredible mods so far, there are some really silly ones. From Doom running in Hytale, to someone managing to get Windows 95 open in the game, too. Well, now we have a 15-year-old who has figured out how to somewhat synchronize the Hytale client and sync it with Minecraft.

Over on X, iamcxv7 posted a mod he’s been working on. The game can port Minecraft Pocket or Bedrock into a Hytale server, and have the client connect with each other. It shows both the Minecraft and Pocket client showing a similar world generation as the Hytale client, each with their own representation of matching blocks.

As time went on, iamcxv7 also posted that he later managed to get time to sync together for both clients, too. Cross-game chat is also possible, and water seems to simulate for both clients separately as well.

To do this, he replied to a user, and told them how he’s doing it:

“It’s all just Packet Trickery. You could say I am running a Minecraft Server in the Hytale JVM, which uses the Coordinate System of the Hytale World (As it’s the same), as well as takes a Snapshot of the Hytale World and reconstructs it, and then sends it to the Client via Packets”

It essentially means it uses a Hytale Java virtual machine to run a Minecraft server inside it. Then syncs the Hytale stuff with what the Minecraft server says. Then you connect the Minecraft client to that server via the Java-hosted server, and then you can feed information from the Hytale client and the Minecraft client that way.

It’s some clever trick of sending packets to and from information, and letting both the Minecraft and Hytale systems sync with each other to make everything appear as smooth as they can.

As it stands, you cannot download this mod yet. It is still something the dev is working on in their spare time. Give him a follow to keep up to date with how this goes. We have a list of best mods to try for Hytale too, if you’d like a look.
