Only 8% of Dispatch players said no to romance, proving gamers want more love (and more options)

Dispatch is a game about working at the Superhero Dispatch Network and managing a team of supervillains turned misfit heroes. But you’d really have no idea based on a lot of the hype surrounding the game, which makes it seem more like a dating simulator.

Dispatch ended 2025 as a huge success. Despite missing out on The Game Awards, the positively reviewed game was enjoyed by many players. According to AdHoc Studios, players answered 727 million calls and dispatched over 1 billion heroes in the choice-based episodic adventure.

However, one statistic really stood out to players.

Dispatch devs reveal romance stats

In Dispatch, players have the choice to romance Invisigal or Blazer. In the devs’ post, it was revealed that 1.9 people romanced Ivisigal and 1 million chose to romance Blazer. It’s possible these freaks were hoping for some steamy cutscenes with the heroes, but developers admitted to cutting sex scenes before the game’s launch. However, after realizing how desperate the player base was, the studio is considering releasing these scenes.

Interestingly enough, 164,000 players decided not to romance anyone at all. When you consider how many people played the game, that’s just 8% of players focused on the workplace rather than smooching.

Players wish you could romance a man in Dispatch

While the two romance options in Dispatch are defintely tantalizing enough for the majority of players (clearly), some gamers have discussed the lack of a male hero to romance.

A lot of players were specifically hoping to romance Flambae, feeling as though it his backstory and interactions made it seem very likely. Many players got their hopes up.

Gamers were spoiled for choice with games like Baldur’s Gate, where you can basically bang anyone that breathes. However, Baldur’s Gate is more about building your own character’s personality and story, while Dispatch is about an already existing character. You play as Robert Robertson III aka Mecha Man, a straight dude who manages calls for the Z-Team.

Similar to a TV show, he is a fully built-out character with his own personality and story already in place to follow. And apparently, Mecha Man was designed to be straight.

Would it make a difference if he also made out with Flambae? I truthfully feel it wouldn’t change his personality or story at all in the realm of the game. While this has created some discourse around sexual orientation representation in video games, the real issue is a lack of choices. In a game all about choices, it’d be cool to just have more options in general.

I guess you never know what could happen in the future. Either way, it’s funny that this is a conversation in a game that’s not really about the romance at all.
