In case you missed it, there’s a big, weird statue in the Mojave desert which is seemingly tied to this week’s Game Awards, and no one seems to want to take credit for it.
We felt sure it was Diablo 4’s next expansion, then we assumed it was something God of War. Then there were suggestions it could be for upcoming PS5 shooter Saros or even Elder Scrolls. Finally, fans thought they’d cracked it, piecing together imagery from the upcoming Lords of the Fallen II.
As it turns out, though, it’s not CI Games’ new project – but they hope it’s something to do with From Software.
Is the Game Awards statue a From Software tease?
Posting on X in the aftermath of fans putting two and two together and coming up with four, CI Games founder and CEO Marek Tyminski said “Flattered so many think we’re behind that statue”.
“Can confirm it’s not us, we’re just as hyped as you are. Devs are praying it’s something FROM. Huge respect to them and we dream of reaching that level one day.”
“Big news coming for both Lords of the Fallen and Lords II. We’ve listened. Soon it’s time to reveal. Thanks for the insane love on the August trailer, now we’re ready to step it up again.”
From Software is already working on a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods, which is slated for 2026, while Elden Ring: Nightreign has received a new DLC, dubbed The Forsaken Hollows in the last few days.
FromSoft has previous for sharing games at The Game Awards, showing off Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice via a teaser in 2017, as was Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon in 2022. Is the time right for more Elden Ring, could the studio go back to Dark Souls, or is the statue something to do with Bloodborne?
Naturally, we’ll find out what it is for in just a few days. The Game Awards will arrive on December 11 at 5:00 PM PST/ 8:00 PM ET.
