Phantom Squad

Phantom Squad is like a real-time Doorkickers that more people should be talking about

Top-down close-quarters strategy games have always had a solid following, and with the success of Doorkickers and its sequel, it is maybe surprising we haven’t had more attempts at the genre.

Phantom Squad has only been out for just over a day and is doing well on Steam, but it is the kind of game that is easily overlooked in the torrent of daily rubbish that lands on the platform.

Super Rare Games are behind it, and while it shines best as a co-op multiplayer – if only so you can lose your mind at a friend when they screw up a mission – it is also possible to complete the missions solo, which is actually a bigger thing than you would think. Most times, if a game is aimed at the co-op crowd, simple player enjoyment is hard to come by.

Have a watch of the trailer to see if it takes your fancy. If you are a fan of Doorkickers, then it will, even though it is more real-time and less plan-time than that game. It’s also only cheap as well, coming in at under $10, so it is well worth supporting, especially while it has a 30% off launch discount. If we manage to get an editor and mods in the future, this is going to get a lot of play time.

The combat is tight, exciting, and well-structured, and gives you a real air of tension as you take care of business. You can grab Phantom Squad on Steam now.

Phantom Squad features:

  • Tactical Pre-Planning: Plot your route, mark objectives and coordinate entry points before moving in.

  • Specialized Gear: Use a diverse arsenal of over 20 specialised gadgets to outsmart, outmaneuver and overpower your enemies.
  • Dynamic Maps: Plan your approach in environments that are always shifting, ensuring no two missions are the same.
  • Co-Op Teamwork: Coordinate in 4-player co-op, each taking on a unique role to execute the perfect strategy.
