Patrick Wilson Will Join Ant-Man Cast

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Actor Patrick Wilson will join Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and Evangeline Lilly in the 2015 Marvel film.

Deadline reports that actor Patrick Wilson will join the cast of Marvel’s Ant-Man. Wilson’s latest films include The Conjuring and Insidious, and he played Nite Owl in the 2009 Watchmen film adaptation. Talks are also confirmed with actor Michael Pena, who recently appeared in American Hustle and plays the lead in the upcoming Cesar Chavez biopic. There is no news yet on what role Wilson will play in Ant-Man.

The casting of Paul Rudd as the lead in Ant-Man was announced in December. Rudd will play Scott Lang, a thief who stole the original Ant-Man’s suit and eventually took up the hero’s mantle. Michael Douglas has signed on as Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man, a biophysicist who discovered a chemical compound that allows him to change his size. Evangeline Lilly, who played Kate Austen in Lost and Tauriel in The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, is reportedly in talks to play Hank Pym’s daughter, a new character not present in the comics.

Ant-Man will be directed by Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish. Details about the story are few, but fans speculate that Ant-Man will follow Scott Lang’s theft of the Ant-Man suit and his eventual reform from a life of crime. Ant-Man is set for release on July 17, 2015, as part of Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel has been reaping the success of their film adventures, with the film franchise ranked as the third-highest grossing of all time (only the Harry Potter and James Bond franchises have it beat). A television special exploring the Marvel Cinematic Universe will air on ABC on March 18. Titled Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe, the special will include new clips of upcoming Marvel films as well as exclusive interviews.
