Steve from Minecraft Joins Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information

Steve from Minecraft is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the all-star fighting game’s latest DLC addition. The new character announcement trailer came during a quick presentation from Nintendo and series creator Masahiro Sakurai. Though only a few minutes long, the trailer and event gave fans a look at the roster’s first new member in months. Steve is also joined by what seem to be Minecraft alternate skins in Alex, Zombie, and Enderman. Check out the presentation below.

There’s no concrete date telling us when exactly Steve will drop for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass 2 holders, but Sakurai and Nintendo did announce an extended presentation that is set to take place Oct. 3 at 10:30 a.m. ET / 7:30 a.m. PT.

The face of Minecraft is the second of six DLC characters coming to the game, with the first being Arms fighter Min Min, who was initially revealed last June and released only a week later. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass 2 was due to conclude new releases before Dec. 31, 2021, and we will see if that continues to be the case with the pandemic continuing to hamper things.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate first launched on Nintendo Switch in late 2018, bringing the largest roster of fighters the series — or nearly any fighting game — has ever seen. The first Fighters Pass brought five characters (in addition to one free character in the form of the Mario series’s Piranha Plant prior to that), so after Fighters Pass 2 concludes, the game will include more than 80 unique characters.
