Nintendo UK has confirmed that Super Smash Bros. will release in the UK and Europe on December 5.
Update: The Super Smash Bros. US website has been updated to show the North American release as November 21, and Australia, New Zealand and Japan as December 6. Looks like Japan will be getting something… last, for once.
Original Story: Nintendo UK has just posted up a new trailer for Super Smash Bros. Wii U to its official YouTube page, showing off some snippets of the game, but more importantly, finally revealing that one nugget of information fans have been patiently waiting for: a release date. Previously, we were only given a “holiday” release time-frame, but now Smash fans in the UK and Europe will be pleased to know that the game will launch in the region on December 5.
We’ve reached out to our contact at Nintendo of America to confirm when the game will launch in North America and the rest of the world, but you can probably assume that it will be around the same time (except Japan, which will probably get it a month in advance…)
Furthermore, the video also announced that the first wave of “amiibo” toys, that will be compatible with the title, will launch on November 28, with a second wave to follow on December 19.
The first wave contains the 12 figures you can order right now on Nintendo’s online store, and are nothing we haven’t seen before. The second wave, however, consists of Diddy Kong, Little Mac, Luigi, Captain Falcon, Pit and Zelda – characters that previously did not have amiibos associated with them. Thus, we can safely assume that every Super Smash Bros. character will probably get its own amiibo at some point down the line.
The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. launched earlier this month (or, last month for Japan), and has seen quite a bit of success. Did you pick up the 3DS version, or have you been holding out for the home console release?
